Sail Camps by Quaystage Training are more than a sailing course, more than a summer camp, and most definitely more than your usual ‘teen travel experience’. The unique mix of sailing and other outdoor activities, cultural immersion and exploration, hands-on learning experiences, and living on board with a group of like-minded adventurers their own age, creates a high-impact learning environment designed to teach a wide range of transferable life skills like teamwork, leadership and problem solving, as well as cultural and environmental awareness.
Talking of teamwork, leadership and problem-solving – those are all indispensable skills in today’s workplace and even early on in a young person’s education. But let’s be honest, when it comes to securing a place at the best schools and universities, competition is fierce, and setting yourself apart from the other applicants imperative. What better way is there than to talk about your experience learning about the history and marine ecosystems of Greece while sailing on your admission essay or interview? Or reflect on your personal development when you went that extra mile on your DofE expedition and took on the responsibility of navigating and skippering your group’s yacht. And surely, those extra certificates and qualifications you earned while on board won’t look bad on your CV, either… 😊
Even though – or more so because – the young people and their personal development are at the centre of each Sail Camp, the team of supervisors on board who act as their mentors and teachers, play an essential role in the success of each journey.
We pride ourselves on our passionate and highly qualified team and the exceptional staff to student ratio we provide on each Sail Camp. Each boat is supervised by two experienced members of staff, the Skipper and Mate, which means a maximum of four students per staff member!
Our Skippers have their Yachtmaster Offshore certificate or higher, which means not only do they have extensive experience in sailing and skippering yachts, but are also trained first-aid providers. Our Mates are sailors as well, with a minimum qualification of Day Skipper (many of them higher), who also bring a wide range of other skills to our programmes, be that in their role as scientists, teachers or youth workers.
Reasons to choose Quaystage – no matter their background, qualifications and roles on board – all our staff share a deep passion for working with young people.
We are proud to be accredited by and working with a number of highly-respected organisations from the education and youth work sector.
